05/25/03 - The Need For Speed Pit Stop closes, The Racer Pit Stop opens! Ever since I discovered Racer Free Car Simulator in the summer of 2001, i've pretty much been out of the NFS scene. I started making cars for NFS3: Hot Pursuit in the winter of 1998. When NFS: High Stakes was released in the summer of 1999, I switched to making NFSHS cars, eventually releasing 30 cars over the next two and a half years. Like many in the NFS community, I had eagerly awaited the cracking of the NFSPU file format that would have allowed us to make cars for NFSPU. But that never came, and NFSHS's old graphics engine and poor physics was quickly becoming old. I discovered Racer in the summer of 2001, played around with it for a while, then started converting some of my cars over. The more I edited for it, the more I liked it. The graphics are nicer, it's far more flexible, it has an excellent physics engine, and best of all, it's completely open to editors. It's also constantly being developed by a guy who listens to his fans, not some mega corperation who only cares about sales. In the end, I found no reason to continue releasing my cars for NFSHS. MCO turned out to be something I was not interested in, HP2 was completely unimpressive, and the upcomming NFS: Underground is completely out of sync with my tastes. I found that having a website named The Need For Speed Pit Stop no longer suited my needs as my only involvement in NFS is occasionally playing NFSPU online. So to reflect my new passion, i've designed a new website, The Racer Pit Stop. I'll leave this page up, for archival purposes, there's still alot of people who play and edit NFS, and this page serves as a great resource for them. But it's not going to be updated. It was a great three years, but all good things must come to an end, i've moved on to greener pastures. 03/30/03 - Racer v0.5.0 final released Ruud van Gaal has just released Racer v0.5.0 final, which has fixed most, if not all, of the handling bugs, plus has improved collision detection and multiplayer. Right now, my cars are not officially compatible with v0.5.0 final, so don't complain that they don't work right. They should be driveable though. I will release updated car.ini's for my cars soon. Download Racer v0.5.0 final here: http://www.racer.nl/download.htm 11/22/02 - Final versions of Porsche 914-4 and Porsche 914-6 released! The final version of my 914-4 for Racer has been released, along with the previously unreleased six cylinder 914-6 varient. Both of these cars are only fully compatible with Racer version 0.5.0 beta 6 and 7. As usual, you can find them in the Racer section. Three other versions will follow soon, the flat-eight powered 914-8 prototype, the 914-6 GT race version and the 210hp 2.7l 916 prototype. 11/05/02 - BRE 240Z updated With the release of Racer v0.5.0 beta 6 for the Macintosh and v0.5.0 beta 7 for the PC, cars designed for previous versions of Racer have become difficult to drive. To fix this, i've released a new car.ini for my 1970 BRE Datsun 240Z. The final version of my Porsche 914 will be released soon, along with a 914/6, so there will be a updated car.ini for the 914 soon. 08/17/02 - Beta version of Porsche 914 released Finally, after four months of work, i've released the beta version of my Porsche 914. It is only compatible with Racer v0.5.0 beta 3 and newer due to the nullpoint system that was added in beta 3. It has 5654 polys, a driver made by Stecki and real life Pacejka coefficients supplied by Alpine. The final version should be out soon, along with a 914/6 and other versions. Download it now in the Racer cars section! 07/23/02 - BRE Datsun 240Z car.ini update Because of several new physics features in Racer v0.5.4, my BRE Datsun 240Z has become difficult to control. To fix this, I made a updated car.ini which you can download on the BRE Datsun 240Z page under Racer cars. This updated car.ini allows the BRE 240Z to work with any version of Racer from v0.4.9 to v0.5.4. 07/11/02 - Porsche 914 preview update After several months of on and off work, I am nearing completion of my Porsche 914 for Racer. I have uploaded new pics, which you can view in the Racer section of this webpage. In addition, I am close to releasing the final version of my dragstrip. Check back often for more updates! 06/06/02 - Martin Raceway Beta 1 released for Racer My first released track for Racer, Martin Raceway. has just been uploaded in the Racer tracks section. It is a 1/4 mile drag stip, and represents only five hours of work so far, so don't expect spectacular scenery, but it is a working drag strip. I should have a final version out soon. I'm still working on a city track, based off my hometown of Waco, Texas, hopefully i'll have a beta version of it out soon as well. 04/25/02 - 50,000 visitors! This morning The Need For Speed Pit Stop welcomed it's 50,000th visitor. This webpage has been up for three and a half years, since December 1998, and has been through three different designs, three different hosts, and three different versions of Need For Speed. In light of the occasion, I decided to re-upload the original site design for the world to see. It's located here: http://pitstop.totalnfs.net/oldnfspage 04/24/02 - Final version of BRE Datsun 240Z released After a month of tweaking, i've finished my BRE 240Z for Racer. The main changes are a heavily tweaked car.ini for a more racer car feel and a few mesh changes. The window trim is now mapped to a texture for a more realistic appearance, the wheel centers have been modified so they don't wobble as much, the taillight glows have been improved and the normals have been improved. 04/09/02 - New in game pics of Porsche 914 in Racer section, plus BRE beta update After several weeks of hard work, I finally have the Porsche 914 in game. New pics and information is posted on it's preview page in the Racer cars section. Also, i've had a very informative public beta test of the BRE Datsun 240Z, and i'll be releasing the final version very soon. All I have left to do is a few tweaks and a new dashboard view texture. 03/27/02 - BRE Datsun 240Z beta version released for Racer My first Racer car, a 1970 BRE Datsun 240Z, has just been released as a public beta. It still lacks Racer v0.5.0 support, the car.ini probably needs a bit more tweaking, but overall the car is 95% done. Also, for those of you who have a hard time driving in a game with simulation physics, there is also a set of addon arcade-style car.ini's that make the car handle similarly to NFSHS or MM2 cars. Coming soon to the Racer section will be a preview of my latest project, a Porsche 914. 03/14/02 - New editing tool for NFSHS! My latest editing tool for NFSHS has just been released, it's a program that calculates the Velocity to RPM for the carp.txt. Unlike the earlier version, which was a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet, this one is a stand alone program that doesn't require Excel to run. 03/03/02 - Monza beta version for NFSHS released My accurate version of the famed Italian racetrack has been released as a public beta. While the track shape is accurate, the scenery in many places is incomplete, which is why it is a beta version. You can download it from the NFSHS tracks section. 02/19/02 - Racer section debuts on The Need For Speed Pit Stop Nope, this webpage isn't dead, it's just taking a whole new direction. After several months of playing around with the free car sim Racer, i've added a section to this page that will display my Racer cars. Right now there are no cars for download, but there is a page that shows the status of my almost complete 1970 BRE Datsun 240Z, so you'll want to check that out. If you don't know what Racer is, check out the official Racer page here: Racer Free Car Simulation But before you do that, click on the "Racer" button in the menu and go check out my 240Z. ;) There is also an editing tools page, which right now only has one "tool", a Excel spreadsheet I wrote to calculate lateral g's from Strat's skidpad. 11/29/01 - Audi A4 3.0 Quattro for NFSHS and MM2 done! After several months of work, I have finally completed my 2002 Audi A4 for NFSHS and MM2. This car started out life with the intention of being a NFSHS traffic car, so it has a very low poly count, the high details parts are only 1350 polys - with 3d wheels. The traffic version, with 2d wheels, has only 997 polys, about the same as a standard EA NFSHS car. 11/11/01 - Rally version of Datsun 240Z for NFSHS added I have just completed the rally version of the Datsun 240Z, which the Datsun factory racing team drove from 1971 to 1973. Their impressive list of victories include overall victories at the gruelling Safari Rally in 1971 and 1973. It is based off of my street 240Z, and features 240hp, the same as the real rally version allegedly had. Combined with slightly lower weight, it's a stunning performer. 10/31/01 - Midtown Madness 2 section added I added a section for Midtown Madness 2, which will feature my NFSHS cars converted to MM2. So far, all i've converted is my Lotus 49 & 49B. Don't email me begging for me to convert any of my other cars, i'll get around to converting them eventually, and such emails will hit the trash can without a reply. =) And I am not going to convert any other designers cars. 10/07/01 - MCO to NFSHS car conversion tutorial added The latest edition to the growing collection of NFSHS tutorials is a MCO to NFSHS car conversion tutorial. It's a fairly easy process once learned, but there are a few areas in the conversion process that need explaining, even for the most experianced editors. 10/05/01 - NFSPU Editing Tools section The lastest in a series of improvments that will turn this page into a invaluable resource for editing all five iterations of Need For Speed, this webpage now features an editing tools section for NFSPU. 08/30/01 - NFSHS Datsun 240Z released! I finally finished the NFSHS Datsun 240Z, and it's stunning. It features front and rear spoilers that are, along with the rear window louvers, removeable with the convertible top switch. It also has a dashboard view and accurate performance. 08/20/01 - Datsun 240Z released.... ...for NFS3. Sorry, that was mean, wasn't it? ;-) The NFSHS Datsun 240Z is almost complete, I just need to add damage and finish the dashboard view. But since there is no damage or 3d dashboard in NFS3, and I was already planning on converting the Z to NFS3, I decided to go ahead and convert and release the NFS3 version as a treat for those of you who still haven't upgraded to NFSHS. The NFSHS version of the 240Z should be released in a week or two, depending on how much time I have to work on it. 08/16/01 - NFSHS Carp Editing Tutorial added I have just finished my much-anticipated NFSHS carp editing tutorial. Well, not quite, but it's about 95% done. There's a few things that I haven't fully researched yet, but they don't have too much of a effect on performance. Anyway, you can read it in the NFS4 Tutorials section. 08/15/01 - New car for NFSPU: 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 This new car for NFSPU was a "hidden" car that EA apparantly included, then decided not to use. The hidden car is a 1974 to 1987 non-Turbo 911. The car I made from it is a 1974 911 Carrera 2.7, the replacment for the 911S, though the texture and performance could be modified to represent any non-Turbo 911 coupe from that time period. 07/06/01 - New Car: 1930 Ford Drag Pickup My latest car, a 1930 Ford Drag Pickup, is based upon my 1930 Ford Roadster Pickup Hotrod, and features '60s era drag racing modifacations. With a 650+ hp Oldsmobile V8, it'll run a 10.5 sec 1/4mi. 06/22/01 - New Track: Mediterrano A group of track designers, myself included, has been working on converting the circuit tracks from TNFS and NFS2 to NFSHS. The track I did is Mediterrano, from NFS2. It is now availble in the NFS4 Tracks section. 06/07/01 - Beginner's Guide to NFSHS Car Editing tutorial added 05/28/01 - NFS4 Editing Tools section added, along with my Velocity to RPM Calculator 05/09/01 - NFS4 1930 Ford Roadster Pickup Hotrod released 04/12/01 - NFS4 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR 3.0 released 04/04/01 - NFS3 Aston Martin Vanquish released 03/31/01 - NFS4 Aston Martin Vanquish uploaded 02/25/01 - NFS4 Daytona Speedway added 01/02/01 - Webpage completely redesigned 12/01/00 - NFSHS to NFS3 car conversion tutorial added 11/27/00 - Lotus 49B released 11/21/00 - Toyota MR2 Turbo beta version released 11/13/00 - 1981 Chevrolet K30 released 10/16/00 - NFSPU Savegame editing tutorial added 10/15/00 - Lotus 49 release 10/04/00 - Oldsmobile Super 88 released 09/21/00 - Toyota Celica GTS beta version released 08/23/00 - Caterham Super 7 Superlight R500 v4.1 released 08/15/00 - NFSPU Porsche 914/6 released 08/04/00 - NFSPU Porsche 916 released 07/30/00 - NFSPU Boxster without body color headlights released 07/25/00 - Modified Porsche 914 released for NFSPU 07/24/00 - My first NFSPU edited car uploaded! 07/13/00 - Chevrolet Corvette Z06 released 07/04/00 - 1981 Chevrolet C10 Silverado released 06/19/00 - CPD's Porsche 911 Turbo S converted to NFS3 added 06/12/00 - Win Amp Skins section added 05/29/00 - Caterham Super 7 Superlight R500 for NFS4 released 05/12/00 - Lotus Super 7 S3 for NFS3 released 05/07/00 - Lotus Super 7 S3 for NFS4 released 04/27/00 - Martin Cove version 4.2 finished 03/30/00 - Links page updated 03/29/00 - NFS3 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante uploaded 03/29/00 - NFS4 Audi S4 Quattro traffic car uploaded 03/02/00 - NFS4 Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante uploaded 03/01/00 - NFS3 Audi RS4 and '73 Porsche 911 Carrera uploaded 02/22/00 - NFS4 '73 Porsche 911 Carrera RS uploaded 02/21/00 - NFS4 Lotus Elise Sport 190 uploaded 02/13/00 - NFS4 Audi RS4 Avant uploaded 02/10/00 - 3 new NFS3 cars added - Audi S4, '67 Porsche 911S Coupe & Targa 02/01/00 - NFS4 1970 Porsche 911S Targa uploaded 01/20/00 - NFS4 1970 Porsche 911S uploaded 01/15/00 - NFS4 Bicycle/Pursuit Bicycle uploaded - both in the "Martin" section 01/14/00 - NFS Motor City & Porsche Evolution sections added - both with screenshots and faqs 01/09/00 - Redesigned Audi S4 uploaded 01/06/00 - New pic and information on upcoming NFS4 Porsche 911S 01/02/00 - NFS4 Audi 80 Quattro Version 4.1 uploaded 12/31/99 - NFS4 Audi Ur-Quattro Version 4.0 uploaded 12/31/99 - NFS3 Audi S2 Quattro Version 3.0 uploaded 12/15/99 - Message Board and Guestbook added 12/14/99 - Chevrolet Camero ZL-1 Version 4.0 uploaded 12/04/99 - Martin Cove Version 4.1 uploaded (Multi-Route Dolphin Cove) 12/02/99 - Audi 80 Quattro Version 4.0 uploaded 11/24/99 - 7 traffic cars added, all NFS3 to NFS4 conversions 11/23/99 - Audi S4 Quattro Version 4.2 uploaded 11/16/99 - Multi-Route Dolphin Cove added 11/16/99 - NFS Traffic Cars Section Added 11/15/99 - NFS3 Martin Cheetah GTR Version 3.1 uploaded 11/15/99 - Martin Super Snow Version 4.1 uploaded 11/15/99 - Webpage completely redesigned! |
